The Joys Of A Staycation – Plus, Dua’s Top 5 Places To Eat & Drink In Cornwall 

I count myself so lucky to have been able to travel around the world, for both work and pleasure. But it’s rare that I get the chance to explore the UK beyond London and the other big cities. The UK gets a lot of hate for its weather, but plenty of rain means beautiful, luscious countryside! I feel renewed by all the green, waking up to nothing but the sound of birds outside my window, and the fact that everywhere I go seems to have a fantastic pub.  

This summer, I’ve been exploring Cornwall in southwest England and I’ve loved it so much. Here are my top five food and drink recommendations if you ever get a chance to visit… 

1. Jelberts Ice Cream in Newlyn – Serves up the best vanilla ice cream I’ve ever tasted. 
2. Canteen in Mount Hawke – A communal breakfast and lunch spot where everything is so delicious, I’ve sometimes popped in twice in one day. Perfect after a cold-water sea swim in St Agnes. 
3. The Gurnard’s Head pub, just outside St Ives – My favourite gastropub! A post-lunch scenic walk to the tip of Gurnard’s Head, with its dramatic views of the coast, is not to be missed. 
4. Lovetts in Newlyn – Go there for amazing coffee and bites, and some of the best natural wine (because you know I need my natural wine wherever I go). 
5. Pedn Vounder Beach (see my picture, above) – One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. It’s accessed via quite a steep hike down the cliff, so bring appropriate shoes (and I wouldn’t recommend it with a big dog), but its blue water and white sand remind me of the Bahamas. Oh, and just so you’re aware – naturists do frequent this beach!
