How I Switch Off
We’re on the road again, finally! After two (!) years of waiting, my Future Nostalgia tour is here. I keep telling myself that after rehearsals are done, I’ll have more time to relax, but there’s always more to do even after show prep is over. Although I have become quite good at time management: I pride myself on always being on time (or early) for everything. And I thrive on structure – including hitting our deadlines to bring you this week’s issue (don’t miss Emma Fraser’s piece on Lucy Sparrow, the fascinating felt artist below). That said, I’m having a difficult time winding down before bed these days; trying to sleep with so much on my mind isn’t easy. So here are some tools I use on nights when counting sheep just isn’t cutting it…
- Reading a (physical) book in bed – you’ll be asleep before you know it.
- Journalling to unwind – jotting my thoughts down helps me empty my brain at night.
- Bedtime meditations – I use the apps Insight Timer, Headspace and Brian Eno’s Bloom, which you can use to listen to and create soothing, ambient music.
