My Top 5 Tips For Hosting A Great Dinner Party
One of my favourite things to do is get all my friends around a table for a night of delicious food, drinks and music. Whether it’s cooking a beautiful meal for my girlfriends or something a little more raucous where my kitchen becomes a dance floor, I just love to host! So this week, we speak to some of our favourite experts to bring you their top hosting tips for your next dinner party. Chef and food writer Alison Roman shares her go-to menu tips and conversational no-nos, and stylist Kirthanaa Naidu lets us in on the secrets to creating Instagram-worthy tablescapes. On the drinks menu is sommelier Sunaina Sethi’s super-quick guide to choosing wines like a pro, plus a non-alco cocktail recipe for anyone trying to keep a clear head. First up, my top five dinner party hosting tips. Enjoy!

- Always serve some fun natural wines. And for friends who don’t drink, have non-alcoholic spirit options such as Seedlip and Ghia Apéritif.
- A good playlist is essential – check out Service95’s Spotify for inspiration!
- My favourite dishes to serve are lots of sharing plates for everyone to dig into.
- Invite friends who you think will get along. Or don’t and see what happens! Who you put in the middle of the table is very important. As per Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm, choose someone who can keep the conversation flowing on both sides.
- Plan an after-dinner game to really break the ice. My favourites are Cards Against Humanity, We’re Not Really Strangers or Where Should We Begin? by Esther Perel.
