Maurice
Maurice
E M Forster
What Douglas Stuart Says: On the surface, this is a tale of privilege, repressed sexuality, and unrequited love. But it’s also a sharp critique of class and manners. I love the final act when Maurice and Scudder fall for one another. I like to read Maurice and then follow up with William Di Canzio’s imagined sequel, Alec, which focuses more on the young lovers as World War I rages, and the world falls apart around them.
